  1. This place looks great. How do i get there? are there any neighborhoods close by?

    • Hi, John–Ahalanui Hot Spring is in the heart of Puna District…about 1/2 an hour out of the town of Pahoa. It’s very rural there, but there are subdivisions and homes round about. Just go south from Hilo, through Kea’au to Pahoa (if starting from Kona, drive the belt road south past Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and down into Kea’au, then turn south to Pahoa); at Pahoa, turn south toward Lava Trees State Monument, turn right on the Kalapana-Kapoho Road and follow the signs…you cannot miss it, it’s right on the road! There are bed and breakfast joints around and you can camp at McKenzie State Park, just a few miles away on the Kalapana-Kapoho Road.
